Overview

Termas de Chillan

Chillán ski resort may be 480km south of Santiago but it is certainly worth the effort.  The resort is built on the slopes of the Chillán volcano in the Southern Andes of Chile and provides over 10,000 hectares of skiable terrain.

Renowned for tree skiing and huge areas of open terrain, Chillán is blessed with an average snowfall of 10.1 metres per season. It also has the longest run in South America, called the Three Marias (Las Tres Marias), that lasts a staggering 13km (8 miles).

Driving up to the resort is an experience in itself as the beautiful snow covered tress make way for the Chillán volcano and the sight of the Gran Hotel.  There are trails for all ability levels and plenty of tree and off piste skiing.  Once a storm rolls in there is plentiful powder for weeks and an incredible area of off piste terrain to explore.  There is also is a terrain park and halfpipe for those looking for a different type of thrill.

Termas also has a range of options for accommodation from the more affordable to luxurious but is most famous the Gran Hotel which provides 5 star luxury.

Aside from relaxing in the many natural spas that can be found at Termas de Chillán there are plenty of other activities to keep you entertained.  The Gran Hotel features Chile’s first mountain casino, you can go on cross country tours, heli-skiing, snowmobiling, Alaskan Malamute dog sledding excursions, and even try paintball in the snow.
